Okay, here's the dealio. Lot of people think my name is plain ol' simple ::
"Joanna Ambrose"
Hah! Actually, that's not my real name. My real name is..
" Princesz Joanna Ambrose"
No really. It is.
I SWEAR!!
STOP LAUGHING U!!!!
Ok fine. So it's not really.
My name is plain old' boring *Joanna Ambrose*
But ever wondered what a name really means? I have. I wonder about my name a lot. And if it has anything to do with who I am.
After all, there wasn’t this famous line from the play Romeo and Juliet for nothing.
“What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet.”
First, let me tell you bout HOW I got my name:)
Before I was born, my parents sort of hoped I’d be a boy. Then they'd have their perfect family. I guess when I was born a girl, I ruined hopes of all their ideas of a perfect family seeing as they got divorced seven years later. Anyway. They were going to name me ADAM if I turned out to be a boy.
Unfortunately for everyone, I was born a girl. Yea. So what. Big effing deal. They didn’t know what to name me. My mum wanted to name me ALISON. (Ewwww!! I am so NOT an Alison. yuck. Alison is so.. nerd-ish and goody goody. Anyways, I so don’t LOOK like an Alison.) But thank god, mum wasn’t allowed to name me because she named my sister. It was apparently papa(my father)'s turn.
By the night of the day I was born had come, I still hadn't gotten a name. My dad, blurness as ever, decided to go to a pub. WHO goes to a pub the night their baby was just born u tell me?? Anyways, I am grateful though that he did.
So he was having a drink and what not I suppose and I guess he told the bartender he'd just had a baby. The bartender then told the house band or whatever that was playing that night. The house band then dedicated a song to my dad and his newborn baby girl. The song they played was "Gimme Hope Johanna" by singer Eddie Grant. And tadaaa... I was named Joanna.
*** From Wikipedia ***
The song, "Gimme Hope Johanna" is actually about a place in South Africa called Johannesburg (capital of Republic of South Africa).
* Eddie Grant's later single, "Gimme Hope Jo'anna", during the apartheid regime ("Joanna" stood for Johannesburg, South Africa) was a song about apartheid in that country, and was subsequently banned by it. Lyrics include:
"Well Joanna she runs a country, she runs in Durban and the Transvaal.
She makes a few of her people happy, she don't care about the rest at all.
She got a system they call apartheid, it keeps a brother in subjection.
But maybe pressure will make Joanna see, how everybody could live as one.
******
"Gimme Hope Jo'anna" is a song originally by Eddy Grant, a well-known anti-apartheid reggae anthem from the 1980s, during apartheid in South Africa. The song was banned by the South African government.
"Jo'anna" in the lyrics represents not only the city of Johannesburg, but also the South African Apartheid Government. Soweto is a black township near Johannesburg. The apartheid army was well-known for "sneaking across the neighbours' borders" to fight in other countries. The archbishop is Desmond Tutu, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his opposition to apartheid.
"She's got supporters in high up places, Who turn their heads to the city sun" represents the unwillingness of the international community, at first, to take action against the South African government for using the Apartheid system. It is also a reference to Sun City, the South African luxury resort. "She even knows how to swing opinion, In every magazine and the journals" represents the propaganda which the media contributed which attributed to the success of the Apartheid system.

Anyways. That’s just a history of that song a.k.a my namesake..:) Because of the fact that I was named after a song about a place in South Africa, I now call Africa my homeland. Though I’ve never been there in my entire lifetime, I do hope to visit there someday and who knows, maybe make a difference in the lives of some people there:) I’ve never once been there, but already I love the place:)
Anyways. On with THE NAME!:)
It’s awesome having a name like mine. I love it! JOANNA. I ‘m not being vain here or whatever. I just like my name. Especially because there’s an interesting story to tell about how and why I was named it.
Anyways, since I was young, I’ve always known what my name means. Now, just cos I’m gonna tell you people here what it is, doesn’t mean I’m being “perasan” or whatever.
I’m just telling you like it is.
Ok.
Here goes.
My name apparently has French, Hebrew and English origins.
And in all the origins, it means “God’s gracious gift.”
I’m not going to say I agree with this statement because I don’t think I’m much of a gift, let alone a gracious gift. But hey, each to his own.
JOANNA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English, Polish, Biblical
Pronounced: jo-AN-ə (English), yaw-AHN-nah (Polish)
Latinized form of Ιωαννα (Ioanna), feminine form of Ioannes (see JOHN). This was the name of a follower of Jesus in the New Testament. In the Middle Ages in England it was used as a Latinized form of Joan, and it became common as an English given name in the 19th century.
I think it’s also pretty cool that I’m named joanna cos as u can see, the name Joanna is the feminine form of the name John. And my father’s father’s name is John. This sort of means a lot to me, cos I’ve never gotten to know any of my grandfathers. So u know, I feel closer to him knowing I have his name in mine.
AMBROSE
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English
Pronounced: AM-broz [key]
From the Late Latin name Ambrosius, which was derived from the Greek name Αμβροσιος (Ambrosios) meaning "immortal". Saint Ambrose was a 4th-century theologian and bishop of Milan, who is considered a Doctor of the Church. Due to the saint, the name came into general use in Christian Europe, though it was never particularly common in England
Ambrose, as you know is my family name. And it’s a name I’m proud of. I don’t know why though. I just love it. Apparently it means immortal. I never knew this. I wonder how this relates to me as a person. maybe I’ll become like Voldemort from Harry Potter and try to be immortal? Or maybe I’ll never die. Lol. It’s a scary thought.
